On October 18, 2019, Indiana Parenting Institute, with support from NIPSCO, will be hosting its inaugural State of the Family Luncheon at the Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 East Lincoln Highway in Merrillville from 10am to 1pm. Doors open at 9:30am. This event is intended to inform and foster fresh and relevant conversations, learning, and actions to support and help build holistic outcomes for families and youth in our area.
Dr. Mahalia Hines, mother of Academy Award winning actor Common and Board President of their Common Ground Foundation – and a board member of the Obama Foundation – will keynote on this topic, with a deep dive to be presented by a panel of experts in the areas of Health, Education, and Welfare: Dr. Chandana Vavilala, Lake County Public Health Officer (and internist at Franciscan Health); Patrick McGrew, Executive Director of the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet (and former Chief of Staff for the Indiana State Board of Education); and David Reed, Deputy Director of Child Welfare Services for the Indiana Department of Child Services.
The panel will provide family services professionals and other community stakeholders with a SWOT overview of what’s impacting the health, wellness, and education of today’s families – along with some insight into how to address the challenges and encourage the successes amongst them. All are welcome to be a part of this dialogue. 3 CEUs will be provided.
