As of Wednesday afternoon October 9th, there had been no official comment regarding the fire and its possible cause at International Cushioning Company, near the intersection of U.S. 24 and U.S. 41, in Kentland, and some firefighters were still at the scene. As we reported earlier, no one was initially reported injured at the 44,000 square foot structure. The Town of Kentland issued a public “thank you” on their social media page to “the brave men and women who volunteer as firefighters.” They stated more than 20 fire departments, from both Indiana and Illinois, were at the scene for many hours. They went on to thank the spouses of the firefighters, who worked behind the scenes; Premium Waters for opening their doors and donating bottled water; Murphy Food King and McDonalds for providing food to those battling the blaze; to the Marathon Gas Station; residents of the area who volunteered their time and dropped items off at the fire station; and, town staff for monitoring water levels. The building was a location for packing peanuts and bubble wrap.
