The Indiana State Police stated a car was traveling northbound on Interstate 65, near the Lowell exit around seven a.m. this past Sunday, when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and burst into flames. Good Samaritans at the scene were able to remove the driver from the car, but were unable to remove the passenger due to the intensity of the fire. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Release of the names is pending notification of the family. Three dogs also died as a result of the crash.
