The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office reported the warrant arrest of 29 year old Carlos M. Yanez, following an investigation that took place after a fire at Island Grove Mobile Home Park, northwest of the Interstate 65-State Road 10 interchange, last January 8. In a press release from county law enforcement issued on February 28, they said they were at the site of the fire, and while it was being extinguished by units from the Keener Township Fire Department, they began canvassing the area for witnesses, and they came in contact with Yanez. The accused had a unrelated warrant outstanding at that time, so he was taken into custody. He bonded out on that previous warrant. Law enforcement said during their investigation, they determined Yanez had ignited the fire and one person was inside the structure. The new warrant for attempted murder and arson was issued on February 22nd, and Yanez was arrested on February 27th.
Arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
